London evenings: Late @ Tate

One great thing about Rich (my bf) living in East London is that on weekends we can always find something fun to do. On Friday we decided to venture out into Central London to visit Tate Britain. They had a cool, free event on called “Late at Tate Britain” which invited people to come and explore the gallery after hours and take part in a few different activities. This time, the activities were inspired by a colourful piece of art called ‘Rang Baranga’ by Rasheed Arleen. Everything was put together by 15-25 year olds from the Tate Collective so there was a really cool vibe and of course people from all ages could join in.

We took part in an African drumming workshop, built sculptures out of straws and jix connecters (to replicate the Rang Baranga) and watched a few artists perform. Drinks were flowing and there was a cultured BBQ outside for all to enjoy. It was a really nice way to spend a few hours, and it was nice to explore the gallery too when there weren’t so many people there!

They have a few more dates coming up this year – 7th October and 2nd December. I’ll definitely be there! If you want to find out more check out the event here: http://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-britain/late/late-tate-britain
